Kopaida is a valley in the region of Voiotia, which was created after the desertification of the homonym lake during 1880-1930. It is located to the north of the prefecture and is enclosed by the mountains of Elikon to the west, Ptoo to the east, Chlomos to the north and smaller hills to the south that divide Kopaida from the plain area of Thebes and Vagion. Copais named after the ancient Voiotian town of Capes, which was close to the location of the current village of Castro. It was also called Kifissida Lake because it was poured into this river Kifissos.
